Committed to Safety
To comply with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to protect the rights of children as defined in the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), The NASA STEM Educator Professional Development Collaborative at Texas State University (EPDC) is providing privacy information for your review. For more information on Texas State University’s general information gathering and dissemination practices, please read our privacy policy at https://www.tr.txstate.edu/privacy-statement.html.

Notice to Parents/Guardians
This EPDC statement describes our practices for collecting and using personal information from and about children under the age of 13. EPDC does NOT disclose ANY data about children under the age of 13 who utilize our badging site. If you have any questions about the policies or statement, please contact our office at [email protected]

Parent/Guardian Consent is Not Required to Participate in Student Badges
Using the student badging system operated by Pensar Learning Systems, we collect very limited personal information from participants using the badging system. We recognize this system will be used by our target participants who are under the age of 13.
The Federal government exempts EPDC from obtaining parental/legal guardian consent to collect/save the very limited personally identifiable information it does collect from students under the age of 13. However, EPDC must certify it meets all the requirements under this exemption.
EPDC will not collect/save data from children under the age of 13 beyond the child’s first and last name and the child’s email address. It will never disclose this information outside this project.

Notice to Children
If you are under age 13 and you wish to earn one or more of the NASA badges at the EPDC student badging site, you may do so.

Reviewing Information
To request a review of available information related to your child’s use of the EPDC Badging System, please contact EPDC at [email protected]. You will be contacted within 72 hours to follow up on your request. Again, EPDC will not release any data from any badging system participant.

Revoking Consent and Deleting Information
At any time, a parent or guardian may diret us to delete their child(ren)’s information from our online data storage. To request deletion of your child(ren)’s retained data, or for further information regarding delection of information, please contact EPDC at [email protected]. Be aware that if the information is deleted, then the affected child(ren) will no longer be able to participate in the badging system.

Information We Collect
The EPDC badging site collects only one type of information at our site: personally identifiable information that allows us to securely admit the student to the website and then keep track of the student’s progress in completing a badge or badges.

  • The personally identifiable information includes the student’s first and last name and the student’s email address.

How We Use the Information
We use the information about your child to ensure the appropriate user – that is, the student with the submitted email address – is working in the system under the appropriate account.
All completed work and earned badges are paired with the student’s first and last names so personalized certificates of completion can be created by the student.
EPDC does not share or distribute any personally identifiable information about participants or their families with external organizations. EPDC may disclose the personal information we collect in order to comply with the law, a judicial proceeding, court order, subpoena, or other legal process.
We reserve the right to modify the terms of this policy to meet customer concerns and changes in the law. Updates to our privacy statements will be posted online and are effective immediately upon posting.

What Online Applications Will We Use
Below is a list of third-party computer applications and web-based services that will require student information in order to have functional access:
Pensar Learning Systems operates for EPDC an educator-oriented website (https://nasa-epdc.pensarlearning.com/) and a student-oriented website (https://nasakids.pensarlearning.com/). Both sites treat all private information identically.
